Yakima County Fire District #4 is currently establishing an eligibility list for 48/96 positions.
The Fire District has determined not to establish any set duration of the longevity of a list and reserves the right to seek out new candidates or refresh the list at its discretion at any time.
Yakima County Fire District #4 requires the applicants complete the Personal History Questionnaire (“PHQ”). You can access the PHQ through your candidate account. It is recommended that the PHQ be completed as soon as possible to avoid delay in your application process. Failure to full complete the PHQ will result in immediate disqualification from the process.
Yakima County Fire District #4 applicants are Required to Upload – Firefighter 1 IFSAC Certification (International Fire Service Accreditation Congress), Current Washington State EMT-B or National EMT-B certification and Current NWCG Wildland Firefighter II Qualification.
Department Overview:
East Valley Fire Department also known as Yakima County Fire District #4 serves the residents of Terrace Heights, Moxee and all the area east of the Yakima River from ridge-top to ridge-top all the way out to mile marker 30 approximately the intersection of SR 24 and SR 241 an area also know as Blackrock the district as a whole encompasses approximately 125 square miles.
We are bordered on the West by the Cities of Yakima and Union Gap (Yakima Fire Department), to the north by the City of Selah (Selah Fire Department) and the Yakima Army Training Center (Training Center Fire Department) and also to the south by Yakima County Fire District #5 (Lower Valley Fire Department).
East Valley Fire Department currently maintains 4 fire stations throughout our coverage area. We are what is known as a combination department staffed by 11 full time personnel including a Fire Chief, 10 Career Firefighter/EMT’s and a District Secretary providing the 24/7 coverage, in addition the full time staff work in conjunction with approximately 22 Paid on Call Firefighters and Support personnel to provide the best services possible to the approximately 23,000 residents and other users of our coverage area. In 2016 we responded to 1,197 Incidents of varying types which is nearly a 100 call increase from 2015.

Position Information:

Salary Information: Starting entry, Step 1 annual estimated salary 48/96 Shift is $46,000.00. Local #469 East Valley fire and Yakima County Fire District 4 CBA ends December 2018 and are in negotiations at this time.
Job Requirements
Age: 21
US Citizen: Yes
High School Grad/GED: Yes
Valid WASHINGTON State Driver’s License: Yes
Ability to Read/Speak English: Yes
Vision: Correctable to 20/20
Minimum Qualifications:
- High-School Diploma or GED
- Valid Washington State Driver’s License
- Must be insurable to drive department vehicles
- Must have a Washington State EMT-B or National EMT-B + Obtain WA ST certification (condition of employment)
- Must have a Firefighter 1 IFSAC Certification (International Fire Service Accreditation Congress)
- NWCG Wildland Firefighter II
- Preferred candidate will have a strong background in communication
- Must have excellent organizational skills
- Must be positive and creative in identifying solutions to problems
- 21 years of age upon appointment
- Documented CPAT Test
Preference Considerations: Must include the above minimum qualifications:
- Documented Career Firefighter Experience (Probation completion) 1 year +
- Documented Volunteer or Paid on Call Experience 3 years +
Successful completion of driver’s abstract, criminal background screening, physical agility test, drug test and medical examination required.
The Process: Eligibility List:
- Step 1: Applications only accepted on-line via the National Testing Network Application Process.
- Step 2: Specific requirements of addition documentation in specified formats will be requested for those selected as potential candidates and meeting minimum requirements.
- The fire district will determine when Step 2 occurs and notify candidates moving to Step 2.
- Step 3: Notifications will be sent out to applicants who will participate in the Step 3. Interviews, Assessment Center and Physical Agility testing date will then be provided
