• Applicants must be at least 18 years of age
• Possession of a high school diploma or equivalency certificate
• Completion of State Certified Firefighter I Academy
• Currently employed in California as a paid full-time firefighter/paramedic for a minimum of three (3) years with a municipal, local, or state government fire department

License and Certification (position requirements at time of application):

• Possession of a valid California Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic License (issued by the State of California Emergency Medical Services Authority – “blue-card”)
• Possession of a California State Fire Marshal Firefighter I Certificate (community college certificates are not acceptable)
• Possession of a State Certified Firefighter I Academy Certificate
• Possession of a valid Class C California Driver License with firefighter endorsement or out of state equivalent

Highly Desired Qualifications:

• Possession of an Orange County Emergency Medical Services (OCEMS) accreditation

Candidates who successfully complete the selection process and are selected for employment with the Orange County Fire Authority must successfully complete a comprehensive firefighter academy and the OCEMS accreditation process.

Probation Period:
A Firefighter Paramedic-  Lateral is placed on probation for approximately fifty-two weeks from the date hire.
