DESCRIPTION: |
The purpose of this position is to provide fire protection and emergency medical services for the preservation of life and property. This is accomplished by responding to emergency calls, providing emergency medical services, hazardous materials responses, participating in firefighting and rescue activities, providing public education, and providing life safety inspections. Other duties include maintaining the fire station, Hazmat operations, performing inspections of commercial properties, conducting tours, inspecting equipment, and performing related duties as assigned. |

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: |
- Provide fire suppression services by responding to emergency calls, establishing water supplies, performing search and rescue for possible trapped or injured persons, lifting, mounting and operating fire hose, ventilating roofs, operating equipment such as ladders, hose appliances, etc., performing high-angle or aerial rescue, investigating fire alarms, restoring fire alarms and sprinkler systems, and emergency vehicle operation.
- Provide emergency medical services by responding to requests for service, providing basic and advanced life support, obtaining vital signs, providing fluids and medications, operating emergency equipment, lifting and transporting patients to appropriate medical facility, ECG interpretation, .
- Ensure that all equipment and apparatus is in a constant state of readiness for emergency calls by participate in cleaning and maintaining station facilities, grounds, equipment, and apparatus, ensuring that appropriate conditions are maintained at assigned station, conducting daily and weekly check of emergency apparatus and equipment; conducting inventory of ambulance.
- Participate in a variety of fire prevention operations, activities and programs including training, fire investigations, code enforcement and equipment operation and maintenance; participate in activities and operations in response to natural disasters, major accidents, incidents involving hazardous materials, and other emergency situations.
- Participate in continuing education on fire and EMS issues; maintain constant training in all areas of fire suppression, prevention, emergency medical techniques, hazardous materials response, and other operations and activities of department; perform fire ground and paramedic skills training.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: |
The following requirements MUST be met to be considered for the lateral transfer program:
Experience:
Must have a minimum of three (3) years’ experience as a paid, full-time certified firefighter to be considered for employment. The applicant’s prior agency service, experience and responsibilities will be taken into consideration.
Applicants must have no more than a two (2) year break in service from the time they separated from a comparable fire department (if applicable).
Certifications:
Candidates must hold a TCFP Basic (or higher) Firefighter certification or its out of state equivalent AND hold an EMT Paramedic certification from the Texas Department of State Health Services or the National Registry
AND
Must be able to obtain a Texas Class B driver’s license within 90 days of employment.
Background:
Must have the ability to pass all pre-employment screenings to include: a physical agility test, an extensive background investigation, a polygraph, psychological exam, physical and drug screen. |

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: |
The Fire Department may choose to set a preference on any or all of the before mentioned certifications depending on department need.
The Fire Chief will make the final decision regarding an applicant’s eligibility
Firefighter/Paramedic applicants with previous experience are considered lateral transfer applicants and are eligible for starting pay within the appropriate lateral transfer tier:
Tier 1: 36 to 59 months continual service; $58,000.00
Tier 2: 60 to 119 months continual service; $60,000.00
Tier 3: 120+ months of continual service; $65,000.00
