Position / Title: Fire Inspector

Requirements:

Qualifications and Skill Requirements: High school diploma or GED equivalent required; an alternate combination of education and work experience demonstrating the skill required to perform the job will also be considered. Considerable knowledge of modern fire prevention, procedures, techniques and equipment as well as modern fire suppression. Considerable knowledge of building, electrical, mechanical, and fire codes; Knowledge of NFPA and OSHA standards as well as Federal and State laws applicable to the Fire service. Ability to effectively apply standard fire prevention techniques. Ability to physically perform work related tasks, communicate effectively orally and in writing, exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and in making decisions, effectively give and receive verbal and written instructions, establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies and the public; and ability to meet the special requirements listed below. Skill in the operation of computers and computer software particularly Windows and Microsoft Word. Carry out duties in conformance with Federal, State, County and City laws, ordinances, policies, rules and regulations.

Special Requirements: Must have current Firefighters II certification as recognized by the State of Ohio (ORC 4765.55) Must have certification as Fire Safety Inspector, as recognized by the State of Ohio (ORC 3737.34) No felony convictions or disqualifying criminal histories. Must possess and maintain a valid State driver’s license without record of conviction for DUI or reckless operation within 5 years and no more than 6 points in the last two years. Must be able to read and write the English language. Must be of good moral character and possess industrious habits.
