AIRPORT FIREFIGHTER Position
The Wayne County Airport Authority (Detroit Metro & Willow Run Airports) is accepting applications for the position of Airport Firefighter. The Airport Firefighter under supervision on an assigned platoon performs various life, property, & environmental control activities; including but not limited to: Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF), traditional structural fire control; and prevention; & Emergency Medical Services (EMS) for the WCAA employees, tenants/contractors & the travelling public. Employees participate in an extensive training program that includes: fire drills, operating apparatus, live burns, & training related to the maintenance of the State of Michigan Paramedics license.
At the time of application, qualified applicants must have & submit proof of the following:
- High School or General Education (GED) Diploma; AND
- Must have completed the State of Michigan Firefighters Training Council Fire Fighter II course, as well as HazMat-Operations Level Training for the First Responder; AND
- Must possess a current State of Michigan Paramedic License; AND
- A valid driver’s license and a safe acceptable driving record; AND
- Must qualify for an Airport Security Badge
- Must have a valid certificate of completion of the pre-employment written test and the Physical Agility Test administered by the Conference of Western Wayne Firefighter Testing program or its equivalent; OR been employed as a full time firefighter within the last six (6) months.
Salary: $45,896 annually, plus paid vacation, holiday pay, tuition reimbursement, miscellaneous bonus, paramedic bonus, educational incentive, paid health care, defined benefit/defined contribution retirement and performance bonus. This IS NOT a Safer Grant funded position. This position is represented by a bargaining unit.
