Paramedic/Engineer Jamie Taylor Selected LSFD 2013 Firefighter of the Year
LEE’S SUMMIT, MO– The Lee’s Summit Fire Department is proud to announce that Paramedic/Engineer Jamie Taylor has been selected by the department and the Lee’s Summit Firefighter’s Association Local 2195, as the 2013 Firefighter of the Year.
Paramedic Taylor is a four year member of the department assigned to Fire Station 7, on C Shift. He was nominated by several members of the department for his compassion and overall contribution to the department and the community.
Paramedic Taylor’s level of caring goes well beyond those in need of immediate medical assistance, looking out for what happens to our citizens after the trucks leave. He recently responded to a call to assist getting someone off the floor. Even though the person wasn’t in need of medical care, it was clear that since they lived alone, they were in need of additional assistance. Paramedic Taylor reached out to the family during and after the call, to share his concerns and make sure that the person’s needs were met.
Along with his skills as a firefighter and a paramedic, Jamie has amazing mechanical skills that have been put to good use assembling equipment on a new ambulance and ladder truck. In addition to working on new fire trucks, Jamie has helped with refurbishing a 1951 Howe fire truck used by the department decades ago and recently acquired by the union. The truck has been used in many events from delivering Santa downtown, to participating in the Freezin for a Reason ride to benefit Special Olympics, where Jamie was the driver for an honored guest.
Paramedic Taylor is an example of a member who willingly gives to the department and community when called upon. His dedication and professionalism have made him a very deserving recipient of the Firefighter of Year award.
