Requirements:

Knowledge and Experience Five years (5) fire service experience with a minimum of one year full-time experience as a company officer or two-years as an acting company officer. Promoted Fire Lieutenant will be required to meet VFES position matrix for Fire Lieutenant within twenty-four (24) months of promotion. Fire behavior, chemistry of fire and fire dynamics. Building design, construction loading and reaction to fire and collapse potential. Fire protection and detection system design, operation and maintenance requirements. Short and long range planning principles. Incident command, strategic and tactical considerations essential to the safe and effective deployment of fire companies at the scene of aircraft, structure, wildland, hazardous material, transportation, extrication/rescue, and disaster incidents or operations. Apparatus design, operation, emergency scene deployment, and maintenance standards, principles of hydraulics. Leadership, supervisory, management and motivational skills essential to effective and efficient development and utilization of human resources. Standard Operating Guidelines as well as VFES Administrative Policies, and other applicable Town policies. Communication techniques and equipment, the computer assisted dispatch system as well as the records management system. Instructional techniques associated with the development of course outlines, job analysis, lesson plans, evaluation techniques/instruments, and the ability to teach associated skills to firefighting personnel and general public. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Current emergency medical care principles and techniques. Fire and rescue practices and standards being utilized in the fire and rescue services at the state and national level. Education/training Required Five years (5) fire service experience with a minimum of one year full-time experience as a company officer or two-years as an acting company officer. EMT-B Fire Officer 1 Hazardous Materials Operations Valid Colorado driver’s license or be able to obtain by time of employment, CDL preferred S-130, 131, 190, 211, 215, 290 L-280 I-100, 200 NIMS 700, 800 Colorado Hazardous Materials Operations Colorado EMT-B Preferred S-230/231/ NWCG Engine Boss qualified 2 years experience as a driver/operator/Engineer Blue Card Command certification Associates Degree in Fire Science or related field Technical certification(s), Rope Rescue, Swiftwater, Ice Rescue, Confined Space, Hazmat Technician
