There are simple steps that will help you in your path to learning to be a firefighter. Most fire departments require candidates have their EMT certificate as a prerequisite to apply. The EMT certificate is obtained either through a local community college or medical training group like a hospital or licensed training company. If you are interested in learning how to be a firefighter, volunteer with the local fire department. This is a great way to make contacts and gain vital experience. You can also take fire technology classes at a local community college. These classes look good on a resume and will give you the theoretical knowledge of the science behind firefighting. If you are willing to do the work, becoming a firefighter is a wonderful career.
