Charleston Fire District is currently hiring for Firefighter/EMT (Seasonal).  There are four (4) positions open. This position requires FireTEAM.  To be considered for this round of hiring, all testing must be completed by June 5, 2018.

Small agency looking to hire four seasonal firefighters for summer coverage.  Our agency is close to fishing, ocean beaches and other outdoor recreational activities

FIRE DISTRICT PROFILE

The Charleston Fire Districts protects and area of 8 Square Miles with an estimated population of 7,000 residents. We provide Fire and emergency services to the area including Structural & Wildland Interface Firefighting, Medical response, Hazardous Materials response, Special Rescue such as High Angle/ Low Angle and Vehicle Extrication.

The Charleston Fire District has a full time staff of three including a Fire Chief, Deputy Fire Chief/ Training Officer, Battalion Chief/ Maintenance Officer. The full time staff work 5 days per week and are on call 24/7. The District also employs 3 part time positions, an EMS Coordinator to manage the EMS program including tracking EMS equipment & ordering.  An office administrative assistant that does billing and other secretarial duties and an IT Manager for the District.  Charleston Fire is also proud of the large volunteer corps of 40 including  student-interns that reside in the outlying stations and are assigned to 48 hour shifts at the headquarters station on a 48/96 hour rotation. The student interns are enrolled at SWOCC in either the Fire Science Technology or the Paramedic Programs.

Charleston Fire District responds from three stations, station one is located at 92342 Cape Arago Hwy in the Barview area, Station two is located at 63081 Crown Point Road and Station three is located at 90414 Metcalf Lane and is dedicated to the memory of Volunteer Deputy Chief Malcolm Turkington who served the Charleston Community as a Firefighter for 42 years and was the reverend at the Charleston Community Church for over 45 years.

Each of our stations has a Rescue and Engine assigned to it with Station three also housing a tender. The Engines are all identical and are 1991 Pierce Arrow Fire Engines, the Rescues include a 2001 Ford F550 walk around rescue and type 6 engine, a 1995 Horton Ambulance and a 2002 Wheeled Coach ambulance. These units are designed to serve the District as EMS response and special tasks, the Wheeled Coach is our rescue with vehicle extrication equipment. The Horton is set up as a technical rescue and mass casualty unit.

Job Requirements

Age: 18

US Citizen: Lawfully work in the U.S.

High School Grad/GED: Yes

Valid OREGON State Driver’s License: Yes

Ability to Read/Speak English: Yes

College:
Preferred

Prior Experience:
1 year of structural firefighting preferred, EMT Basic or higher preferred, EMR is acceptable. Qualified as NFPA Firefighter I, NFPA Driver/ Operator with NFPA Apparatus with Fire Pumps.

Necessary Certifications:
Have and maintain a State of Oregon Emergency Medical Responder or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) – Basic Level or higher certification. EMT preferred

Hiring Process:

  • NTN Testing and application review
  • Physical Abilities testing for those candidates invited after NTN testing
  • Background investigation completed
  • Oral interview by CFD Staff
  • Offer of employment based on fit for duty after medical consultation to determine fit for duty

General Statement of Duties:
As a member of a fire district company and under the direct supervision of a fire district officer, a firefighter performs firefighting, rescue, emergency medical care and other types of emergency response related duties. Participates in fire prevention, code enforcement, and public safety education activities. Helps to maintain and make minor repairs to the fire station, fire apparatus, and emergency response equipment. Participates in training and personal development activities necessary to acquire and maintain the knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of a firefighter in a proficient and safe manner.
