Requirements:

Age: At least 18 years of age and less than 41 years of age at the time of employment. US Citizen: All applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States at the time of registration. High School Grad/GED: All applicants must have a high school diploma or a high school general education development certificate (GED) Valid OHIO State Driver’s License: All applicants must have a current, valid, driver’s license at the time of registration. If appointed, this license must be maintained for the duration of your employment. Ability to Read/Speak English: All applicants must be able to read, write, speak, understand and otherwise communicate fluently in the English language. Vision: Category A conditions that would not meet medical requirements are as follows: (1) Far visual acuity less than 20/40 binocular, corrected with contact lenses or spectacles, or far visual acuity less than 20/100 binocular for wearers of hard contacts or spectacles, uncorrected. (2) Color perception – monochrome vision resulting in inability to use imaging devices such as thermal imaging cameras. (3) Monocular vision. (4) Any eye condition that results in the candidate not being able to safely perform one or more of the essential job tasks. Category B conditions that would meet medical requirements if the candidate can perform the essential job tasks without posing a significant safety and health risk to themselves, members, or civilians are as follows: (1) Diseases of the eye such as retinal detachment, progressive retinopathy or optic neuritis. (2) Opthalmological procedures such as radial keratotomy, Lasik procedure, or repair of retinal detachment. (3) Peripheral vision in the horizontal meridian of less than 110 degrees in the better eye or any condition that significantly affects peripheral vision in both eyes. College: Not required, but a degree in Fire Science, Emergency Medical Management or a related field is preferred. Academy Certification: All full-time applicants must possess, at a minimum, a current State of Ohio Paramedic certification or a current National Registry Paramedic certification. State of Ohio Firefighter certification is not required at the time of registration, but State of Ohio Firefighter II certification is preferred. All part-time applicants must possess, at a minimum, a current State of Ohio Emergency Medical Technician certification (State of Ohio Paramedic certification preferred) or a current National Registry Emergency Medical Technician certification (National Registry Paramedic certification preferred) and a current State of Ohio Firefighter I certification (State of Ohio Firefighter II certification preferred). All applicants will be required to maintain their certifications throughout their employment with SFE.
