 FIREFIGHTER / EMT



Fire Fighter

Respond to fire alarms.  Operate fire department vehicles under adverse conditions during all hours of the day or night.  Lay hose line, direct water streams, place ladders, ventilate buildings, perform rescue activities & cleaning operations; perform at high levels of physical & mental stress for extended periods of time without physical or mental compromise due to ingestion of prescription drugs.  Perform all emergency work requirements promptly in atmospheres of temperature extremes, total darkness, & confined spaces which allow minimum movement & while wearing self-contained breathing apparatus.  Promptly carry, raise & climb ladders, perform all related duties from the full height of each ladder.  Operate equipment while maintaining balance on sloped roofs.  Enter buildings & other areas under circumstances of great threat to personal health & welfare.  Participate in emergency response drills & routine training sessions.  Perform all emergency work requirements promptly in case of illness, injury & related situations including death; operate as an Iowa EMT-PM.  Prepare accurate reports, maintain files & record keeping; prepare surveys & other documents upon request or direction.

Qualifications

Current Iowa EMT–PM or National Registry Paramedic certification. If this level of certification has not yet been obtained candidate must be at or above the EMT-Basic Level and participating in coursework that will lead to one of these certifications. Applicants must state current certification and class information (including start and ending dates) in their application. Muscatine will be utilizing the CPAT testing process for the physical agility test. Important information regarding this is available on the linked website.
