Application & Testing Process

The Colorado Springs Fire Department requires a valid FireTEAM score as a part of the minimum qualifications to apply for entry level firefighter, as well as any lateral entry positions. This FireTEAM test may only be taken through National Testing Network (NTN).  The Department will NOT accept scores from any other Departments or testing processes.

Interested individuals may apply and schedule to take the FireTEAM test at any time via the National Testing Network (NTN) website (link is external). The FireTEAM test involves high quality simulation tests in a standardized and fair testing environment. Upon completion of the examination, a candidate’s score is maintained by NTN per their policies and procedures.

Prior to completing the Colorado Springs Fire Department application, applicants must satisfy all testing requirements with the National Testing Network (NTN) before being considered for employment.

Veterans Preference:To be eligible for Veteran’s Preference Points, candidates must submit a member 4 copy of their DD214 and a completed Veteran’s Preference Form to the Colorado Springs Fire Department Human Resources office. If you are claiming ten (10) points please also submit a copy of your Veteran’s disability preference letter from the Department of Veteran’s Administration. All forms must be submitted to the Human Resources office by no later than August 31, 2018 11:59 p.m.

DD214’s, Veterans Preference Forms and Disability Preference letters are to be submitted here (link is external).

When submitting your forms please save them and submit them in the following format: last name_first name_form title. (Example: Smith_John_Veteran’s Preference Form).  Forms are successfully submitted once a file shows “uploaded”.

If you have questions, please contact the Colorado Springs Fire Department Human Resources office at 719-385-7244

Selection Process Once the Colorado Springs Fire Department has determined there are vacancies to be filled, a timeline will be set for the selection process. Those notifications will be made through the NTN website and job announcements on this website.  Once the job posting has been closed, a banded employment list is developed. The higher a candidate scores, the higher the band placement.  Typically, the Department will only evaluate  candidates  in the first band. Candidates placing in the top band will be invited to complete the Colorado Springs Fire Department application and submit it with a resume and applicable certifications.

Candidates that are selected to interview will be notified after the application process. After interviews, candidates may be subjected to the background process which includes a polygraph, a thorough background investigation, a medical examination and a drug screen, and psychological testing and interview.

The Chiefs of the Department and CSFD Human Resources will make final selection of the candidates who will be offered employment and selected for enrollment in the Colorado Springs Fire Department Training Academy.

Process Timeline The Colorado Springs Fire Department is currently conducting our hiring process.  Requirements may be found on the corresponding pages.  Candidates may apply to take the exam by going to the  National Testing Network (NTN) website (link is external) and selecting the applicable posting.

We are currently in the process of building a list for an anticipated academy in February 2019 for Entry Level Firefighter and Entry Level Firefighter Paramedic. To be considered all candidates must successfully complete the following:
